New specialized rehab unit dawns at EGH

A specialized geriatric rehabilitation unit called the Post Acute Short Stay Unit (PASSU) has been established at Etobicoke General Hospital (EGH) and is accepting patients. The creation of this new 14 bed unit is part of our new Clinical Priorities Plan (CPP) that focuses on expanding patient care in the areas where we have high demand, and finding new ways to better meet our patient's needs.

PASSU provides even better care to our patients by offering services that will help them maintain their independence. "This unit helps medically frail patients maximize their functional ability and transition toward their discharge destination - which we always hope is their home," says Elaine Chemeris, Director of Medicine, Rehab/Reactivation & CCC.

Although this unit is focused on the geriatric population, younger patients can also be admitted based on their specific needs.
