August 25, 2016, BRAMPTON/ETOBICOKE – Today, Vanita Varma, Chair of the William Osler Health System (Osler) Board of Directors announced the resignation of Matthew Anderson, Osler President and CEO. Matthew is leaving the organization after six years in the role, and will be joining Lakeridge Health in Oshawa in November as its President and CEO.

“In his time with Osler, Matthew has been an extraordinary, visionary leader who has taken Osler to new heights, forging new and innovative partnerships, advancing critical hospital redevelopment projects, and expanding clinical programs and services to help meet the health care needs of this community,” said Varma. “The success that Osler has achieved over the past number of years has been a team effort, and part of Matthew’s legacy was building a strong and capable Senior Leadership Team focused on excellence.”

On Wednesday, August 24, the Board of Directors named Joanne Flewwelling, Osler’s Executive Vice President, Clinical Services and Chief Nursing Executive (CNE) as Interim President and CEO, upon Matt’s departure.

“We are fortunate to have strong leaders on this team, who are ready and willing to step up and the Board is pleased that Joanne has agreed to take on this important role, as well as excited about the possibilities for this organization under her leadership,” continued Varma. “Joanne’s passion for health care and commitment to excellence makes her a remarkable leader and a natural choice to help lead this exemplary organization through the exciting times that are ahead.”

A registered nurse, Joanne has more than 30 years of health care experience in both academic and community hospital settings – including a background in critical care and emergency nursing. Prior to her previous role, Joanne was the Vice President of Strategic Information & Performance Systems, and Chief Information Officer at Osler.

Osler’s Board of Directors has struck a search committee to lead a recruitment process to find a new President and CEO.
