May 9, 2019 BRAMPTON/ETOBICOKE – This week, William Osler Health System (Osler) is honouring its more than 2,300 dedicated nurses as part of National Nursing Week celebrations.
“Nurses play an important role in ensuring the health and well-being of our community,” said Dr. Brendan Carr, President and CEO, William Osler Health System. “They support us in ensuring every patient and their family has an exceptional experience when they come through the doors of our hospitals, so it is an absolute pleasure to recognize their service and honour their achievements this week.”
Throughout the week, a number of activities and events are being held across Osler’s hospital sites to recognize the tremendous work of its nursing community, including educational workshops, skill-development sessions, leadership safety rounds, Q&A sessions with senior leaders, prize draws and more.
This year, Osler is also pleased to recognize two Osler nurses, Bency Shajan, Breast Nurse Navigator and Massey Nematollahi, Immuno-Oncology Nurse Specialist, who were among more than 160 nurses from across the country, nominated by their peers and patients for Hospital News’ 10th Annual Nursing Hero Awards – acknowledging nurses who have gone above and beyond.
“Nurses at Osler live our mission every day by providing innovative health care delivered with compassion. They apply knowledge and expertise to a variety of roles across the continuum of services at Osler,” said Tiziana Rivera, Chief Nursing Executive and Associate Vice President, Quality. “Nurses actively bring their voice to the areas of research, operations and education, to translate knowledge to practice and achieve excellence in patient and family-centred care. They are truly an inspiration and we wish to express our sincere gratitude for their dedicated efforts on behalf of our patients, families and the community we have the privilege to serve.”
