On Monday March 16, there was a fire at the construction site of the Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness. Fortunately there were no injuries to anyone as a result of this event.
We want to thank our first responders - Police, Fire and Ambulance - and acknowledge their service and courage in extinguishing the fire and ensuring the safety of our community. We are also grateful for the tremendous outpouring of support from our community.
Over the past few weeks, PCL – the construction company responsible for the project – has undertaken a number of activities in their investigation and recovery work.
Construction has resumed on the east side of the structure, which was not impacted in the incident, while PCL assesses and makes safe areas affected by the fire. During the week of April 20th, PCL will also remove and then replace one of the cranes on the construction site.
At the same time, Osler continues to move forward with securing permits, ordering equipment, reviewing designs, and meeting with our project partners.
At Brampton Civic Hospital, we continue to make enhancements to our facility. The Cardiac Procedures Unit is being reconfigured to offer more recovery space for patients following treatment. The expansion is expected to be complete in June.
