Osler launches exciting new programs at Brampton Civic

Joint Assessment Centre

More patients than ever can get the specialized treatment they need close to home thanks to new programs introduced at Brampton Civic Hospital.

Earlier this month, Osler launched a new Musculoskeletal (MSK) Program, which includes the new MSK Centre of Excellence, at Brampton Civic and Etobicoke General. The program will help adults who have back and/or joint pain. Surgeries for upper joints will take place at Etobicoke General while all lower joint surgeries will take place at Brampton Civic.

In order to keep up with the increasing volumes, Osler opened a new operating room at Brampton Civic on June 2. The new OR supports a wide range of programs, including the new MSK Program, Vascular, Thoracic and General Surgery, and will help improve access for patients.

This summer, Osler’s smallest patients will be able to help save lives. Starting July 7, new moms will be able to donate their babies’ umbilical cord blood at Brampton Civic for stem cell treatments. This is part of Osler’s partnership with Canadian Blood Services to help build a national public cord blood bank, which could potentially help thousands of patients in need of unrelated stem cell transplants in Canada and around the world.. Given Osler’s large and diverse community, collection efforts will increase the chances of finding a match and help save more lives. For more information, visit www.blood.ca/cordblood.

Also launching in July is a new outpatient Palliative Care Clinic, which will strengthen Osler’s current Palliative Care Program and help patients with complex pain, symptoms and life-limiting illnesses by supporting them in their own homes. Brampton Civic’s new clinic will support a better quality of life for patients by helping to manage their pain and symptoms, educating patients and their families about where they can get care, and more.

All of Brampton Civic’s innovative new services and programs will increase access to quality care and support Osler’s commitment to patient-inspired care without boundaries.
