Registered Dietitians
Registered Dietitians (RDs) are the nutrition care experts. They have been educated and trained in the area of health promotion and nutritional therapy. RDs assess, plan, implement and evaluate the nutritional status/care of patients. RDs also consult with patients, patient families and the multidisciplinary health care team to ensure that patients receive appropriate and optimal nutritional care to improve or maintain nutritional and health status. Please see the RD Role Description for more details.
Nutrition Technologists
Nutrition Technologists (NTs) support the work of the RD. They have educational background in human nutrition. Their role includes processing therapeutic diet menus and ensuring patient foodpreferences are met. NTs visit patients on the inpatient units on a regular basis and report their findings to the RD. They may help screen patients for nutritional concerns and report these to the RD.
