The Child and Adolescent Unit (10-beds) provides care to children and adolescents, up to the age of 18, who are experiencing acute mental health symptoms. Patients are assessed, treated and discharged, with the involvement of family, school and community supports. Admission to the unit is voluntary. An on-site school program, tailored to the student’s current educational level, is also offered.

The Child and Adolescent Intensive Unit (4 beds) serves the most acutely ill youth who arrive through the Emergency Department. Admission to this unit is on an involuntary basis.

Day hospital

The Day Hospital program provides acute treatment to children and adolescents up to the age of 18 who are experiencing acute psychiatric symptoms but do not need overnight admission to hospital. An on-site school program, tailored to the student’s current educational level, is also offered.

Referrals: Access to the Day Hospital is through the Child and Adolescent Inpatient Unit and/or upon referral by child psychiatrist.

Outpatient Services

Osler’s Children Mental Health Services (other than emergency/crisis services) are accessed through physician referral. Upon receipt of referral, the patient and/or family member will be contacted for demographic information, and an Intake Clinical will gather preliminary information regarding presenting concerns.

Child Psychiatry Consultation

On-site consultation, assessment and diagnosis by a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist is available for children and youth under 18 years of age at Brampton Civic Hospital.

Child and Adolescent Clinic

This off-site clinic provides outpatient, interdisciplinary treatment for children and youth under 18 years of age who have or are at risk of developing a psychiatric disorder.

Eating Disorders Clinic

The Eating Disorders Clinic at Brampton Civic Hospital provides outpatient assessment and treatment for children, adolescents and adults in the Central West LHIN and Halton (Georgetown) with mild to moderate eating disorders including Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa and Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified.
  • Services are offered in stages and include: 
  • Assessment and diagnosis/clinical formulation
  • Family-based treatment
  • Group psychoeducation
  • Nutrition counselling
  • Short-term psychotherapy groups
  • Limited individual therapy 
  • Two nurse practitioners provide clinical monitoring as well as community outreach and education.

    Hours: 9:00am-5:00pm Monday to Friday, plus some evening hours.
