Inpatient units

There are two children’s mental health inpatient units at Brampton Civic Hospital:

The Child and Adolescent Unit (10-beds) provides care to children and adolescents, up to the age of 18, who are experiencing acute mental health symptoms. Patients are assessed, treated and discharged, with the involvement of family, school and community supports. Admission to the unit is voluntary. An on-site school program, tailored to the student’s current educational level, is also offered.

The Child and Adolescent Intensive Unit (4 beds) serves the most acutely ill youth who arrive through the Emergency Department. Admission to this unit is on an involuntary basis.

Day hospital

The Day Hospital program provides acute treatment to children and adolescents up to the age of 18 who are experiencing acute psychiatric symptoms but do not need overnight admission to hospital. An on-site school program, tailored to the student’s current educational level, is also offered.

Referrals: Access to the Day Hospital is through the Child and Adolescent Inpatient Unit and/or upon referral by child psychiatrist.

Outpatient Services

Osler’s Children Mental Health Services (other than emergency/crisis services) are accessed through physician referral. Upon receipt of referral, the patient and/or family member will be contacted for demographic information, and an Intake Clinical will gather preliminary information regarding presenting concerns.

Child Psychiatry Consultation

On-site consultation, assessment and diagnosis by a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist is available for children and youth under 18 years of age at Brampton Civic Hospital.

Child and Adolescent Clinic

This off-site clinic provides outpatient, interdisciplinary treatment for children and youth under 18 years of age who have or are at risk of developing a psychiatric disorder.

Eating Disorders Clinic

What services are provided by the Eating Disorders Clinic at Peel Memorial Centre? 

The clinic provides outpatient assessment and stepwise treatment for adults, adolescents and children with mild to moderate eating disorders.

The clinic serves residents in North Peel (Brampton, Caledon), Halton Hills and north Etobicoke (Malton, Rexdale and part of Woodbridge) as well as Dufferin County.
