Osler receives nod as one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers for 7th year

by Osler Staff | Apr 05, 2019

Osler has been named one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers award for a seventh consecutive year and is among only four health organizations across the country to receive the distinction this year.  Only 65 employers throughout Canada are typically awarded this honour annually.

The award recognizes Osler’s leadership and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion at every level across the organization.  It acknowledges Osler’s efforts in creating an environment that allows a better understanding and respect of the unique beliefs, values and practices of patients, their families and the communities it serves – as well as staff, physicians and volunteers.

“We are thrilled to receive this honour once again this year. Diversity, equity and inclusion are part of Osler’s DNA and this award is a reflection of our dedication to being strong leaders in this area,” said Gurwinder Gill, Director, Health Equity and Inclusion. “The credit for this achievement goes to the entire Osler team that has embedded diversity, equity and inclusion in everything they do.  They work tirelessly every day to create an environment where continuous improvement is top-of-mind so everyone we serve can receive compassionate, patient-centred care.”

Many ongoing initiatives demonstrate Osler’s advancement in workplace diversity. Its distinctive approach to diversity, equity and inclusion is supported by the organization’s Health Equity & Inclusion Strategy, a dedicated Diversity Advisory Council, and strong partnerships with community-based organizations that help Osler better serve vulnerable and marginalized populations.

In addition to fostering an inclusive and respectful environment for patients and employees from the LGBTQ21A (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning, Intersex, asexual) community through education, training and tools, Osler hosts an annual Multi-Faith and Diversity Day in partnership with more than 30 external partners serving marginalized patient populations. Osler also recently established a forum to develop and foster leadership in women at all levels of the organization.
