Osler goes beyond with Virtual Care
At Osler, our promise of Going Beyond is not limited by our hospitals’ walls and traditional thinking. That is why we have further expanded our virtual care program to connect more Osler patients with their health care providers through their telephone, smart phone and computer. Virtual care has been underway in areas like our Oncology and Survivorship Clinics and we continue to deliver more clinics and visits through video and phone every day.
Delivering robust virtual care is outlined in Osler’s 2019-2024 Strategic Plan, Going Beyond for Healthier Communities, as we set out to change the way our patients and community access and engage with their health care. We are proud to offer this enhanced service now and in the future.
What is virtual care?
Virtual care is a safe, confidential way of having consultations with your health care provider. Through virtual care, Osler is able to connect patients with their care provider by telephone, smart phone or computer. This reduces the need for some patients to come to the hospital or visit a clinic and ensure patients can maintain their health while at home.
At Osler, virtual care is delivered via telephone or video call platforms such as the Ontario Telemedicine Network.
Virtual care is not new to Osler, but we have recently expanded our virtual care offerings to include additional health care programs and services. Through virtual care patients can expect timely access to quality health care services through the medium that works best for them.
What happens during a virtual care visit?
Virtual care visits are very similar to in-person visits that you would have with your health care provider. During a virtual care visit you may discuss your current health status and your progress with your care provider and they will be able to answer any questions you may have about your care or condition.
Virtual care visits may vary based on the clinical program.
How do I book a virtual care visit?
Your care team will connect with you to discuss if virtual care is an appropriate option for you. They will discuss the types of technology that are available and understand your comfort level with each so they are able to advise which option may work best for your care. Virtual visits may occur via telephone or video call platforms such as Ontario Telemedicine Network. Every visit may not occur virtually as there are times when an in-person visit is best. Your health care provider will determine which visits are most appropriate virtually.
Is virtual care confidential?
At Osler, your privacy is of the utmost importance to us. Similar to an in-person visit, any information you provide to your health care practitioner during your virtual care visit is confidential and secure. If you have any questions about your privacy, please contact Osler’s Privacy Office at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Who can I speak with if I have questions about virtual care?
Your Osler care provider will contact you if virtual care may be an option for you.
