Program information

Addiction Services offer a wide range of evidence-based programs to support individuals in their recovery journey. Our services are available in both virtual and in-person formats, with day and evening options.

Core group programs

  • Recovery fundamentals: A nine-week open-admission group focused on understanding the foundations of addiction. Topics include cravings and triggers, the impact of addiction on the brain, mental health and more.
  • Structured relapse prevention: A nine-week open-admission group that builds on foundational knowledge and introduces practical skills for managing recovery.
  • Intensive day addiction treatment: A four-week intensive daytime program that covers all core topics related to addiction, providing a comprehensive approach to recovery.
  • Family and friends group: Family and friends who have loved ones with concerns of substance use and gambling are encouraged to seek their own support. Both peer support and educational groups, along with individual counselling are offered. Your loved one does not need to be in our programming to attend.

Specialized groups

  • Wellness skills for concurrent disorders: Skills-based support for individuals managing both mental health and substance use concerns.
  • Trauma skills for addictions: A trauma-informed group focused on developing coping strategies and understanding the connection between trauma and substance use.
  • Mindfulness-based relapse prevention: Combines mindfulness practices with relapse prevention techniques to support ongoing recovery.

Workshops (ongoing and rotating)

We offer a variety of workshops on topics such as:

  • sleep hygiene;
  • problem gambling;
  • self-compassion;
  • dialectical behavior therapy skills for addiction;
  • and many more.

Other programming

Frequently asked questions about addictions services

Do I have to pay for services?

No. All our programs are available to you free of charge. They are funded by the Ministry of Health.

Do I have to stop using all substances to access these services?

No. We support both abstinence and harm reduction approaches. However, please note:

  • for addiction counselling, we ask that you do not use any substance 24 hours prior to your appointment
  • no substances are permitted on Withdrawal Management Centre property

Who are addiction counselling services staff?

Our addiction counselling services staff are skilled professionals with both educational qualifications and clinical experience. All are in good standing with their provincial regulatory bodies, such as the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario and/or the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.

What if I want to stop counselling?

You have the right to stop counselling anytime. Your decision will not affect any programs or services you may receive in the future.

I was told I need an assessment. What does this mean?

Your counsellor will begin an initial assessment during your first session. This includes the development of a treatment plan. If you are interested in residential treatment, you will usually require a more in-depth assessment. This can be discussed in more detail with your counsellor.
