Meet Sahana, a respiratory therapist who has been an integral part of Osler since 2021. From her initial role as a Clinical Extern to her current position as a full-time Registered Respiratory Therapist at Brampton Civic Hospital, Sahana brings a fresh perspective and unwavering dedication to Osler’s Critical Care team.
A commitment to excellence
Sahana's career journey is marked by remarkable achievements, including prestigious accolades such as the Presidents Scholarship, the A.W. Conn Respiratory Therapy Scholarship and the Kyoom Abdool Scholarship for Excellence in Respiratory Therapy. Her unwavering dedication to academic excellence coupled with hands-on experience caring for patients speaks volumes about her commitment. Reflecting on her career path, Sahana shares, “after obtaining my undergraduate degree in science, I explored various career paths, contemplating between office jobs, research, or a clinical role in health care. However, witnessing the incredible work being done during the pandemic inspired me to pursue a clinical path where I could make a meaningful difference in patients’ lives.”

She emphasizes, “the collaborative approach to patient care, where every member of the health care team is valued and respected, was a significant factor in my decision to join Osler.” Sahana notes that senior respiratory therapists are always open to mentorship and collaboration, which fosters trust, growth and positive patient experiences, “in our health care setting, collaboration is key to creating the best possible care plans for our patients. Nurses, doctors, and respiratory therapists work together seamlessly, leveraging each other's expertise to provide the best patient care.”
