As we welcome a new year, we do so with purpose, momentum and a bold vision for what comes next. This past year marked the first year of William Osler Health System’s (Osler) new five-year Strategic Plan. At its heart is our shared commitment to delivering world-class health care shaped by the needs and voices of our teams, partners and our communities. This direction continues to push us to deepen collaborations and to work collectively to improve the health and well-being of our rapidly growing region.
This year we are committed to accelerating the transformation of Peel Memorial, which has supported our community’s health for more than 100 years. With last year’s groundbreaking ceremony at the site and the signing of a Development Phase Agreement with Bird Design-Build Construction Inc. now complete, we are into the next exciting phase! The new Peel Memorial Hospital will expand access to beds, feature a new 24/7 Emergency Department and bring innovative care closer to home. This significant progress is only possible with the support of our community, government partners, and leaders who share this vision for the future of health care in our region.
We are also strengthening our clinical partnerships with academic institutions including Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), Humber Polytechnic, and the University of Toronto. With the opening of TMU’s new School of Medicine, the first medical school in our region in more than a century, we are welcoming even more learners through our doors. Together, we are training the next generation and securing a strong, diverse pipeline of future physicians and health care leaders.
With patients and families at the centre of everything we do, we continue to advance learning, research, and innovation, ensuring our communities continue to benefit from leading-edge, compassionate care for years to come.
Our teams are embracing advanced new models of care, leveraging state-of-the-art tools like the Da Vinci Robotic Surgical System, and reimagining processes that improve access and health outcomes, such as reducing wait times for addictions services. Recently, we were recognized for our leading safety and quality practices as Osler once again achieved Accredited with Exemplary Standing from Accreditation Canada, the highest designation for health care organizations in the country.
As we move into the year ahead, we do so with energy and clear focus. We continue driving the transformation of Peel Memorial into Brampton’s second hospital, deepening our academic partnerships to train the best and brightest, and enhancing the care experiences for every patient. Most importantly, we remain grounded in our Mission to provide innovative health care delivered with compassion.
On behalf of everyone at Osler, thank you for being part of our journey and exciting future. Wishing you and your loved ones a year filled with health, joy, and hope.
