Award named in honour of past Osler Board Chair and passionate hospital champion, Kay Blair
Marlin Morrell, long-time volunteer at William Osler Health System’s (Osler) Etobicoke General Hospital, is this year’s recipient of Osler’s Kay Blair Community Service Award. The award was presented to Marlin last week, at Osler’s annual Going Beyond Awards and Gala.
Named in honour of Kay Blair, former Chair of Osler’s Board of Directors who passed away in 2016, the Kay Blair Community Service Award is presented to an individual or group of individuals devoted to serving the needs of Osler’s community, patients and families with compassion, kindness and empathy, without prejudice, and with a willingness to help.
Marlin is a valued member of Osler’s team and since 1986, has given more than 15,000 hours of service to the community. As the first point of contact for patients and visitors at Etobicoke General Hospital, Marlin creates a safe and welcoming environment. She takes pride in working with Osler Service Associates to ensure tidy entrances, and shares important information and updates with other volunteers. Marlin continues to be an advocate for advancing patient safety, and for enhancing the experience of everyone who comes through Osler’s doors.
Marlin's dedication to Osler also extends beyond its walls. Inspired by Kay’s passion to meet a clear need in the communities Osler serves, Marlin raised $50,000 for Osler's Foundation in celebration of her 50th wedding anniversary in 2011.
"Marlin’s devotion to community service and unwavering commitment to enhancing the patient and visitor experience at Osler truly exemplify the spirit of the Kay Blair Community Service Award,” said Linda Franklin, Chair of the Board of Directors, William Osler Health System. “Her selfless contributions have left an indelible mark on our organization and on the lives of those we serve. We are incredibly proud to honour Marlin as a true champion of compassion and care."
“Volunteers play an integral role in our organization, and Marlin demonstrates Osler’s Vision of providing patient-inspired health care every day,” said Dr. Frank Martino, President and CEO, William Osler Health System. “Osler is privileged to have volunteers like Marlin, who always strive to support our community members in having a positive experience at Osler.”
