Week-long events showcase local discoveries and national health care impact
From November 17 to November 21, 2025, the Osler Research Institute for Health Innovation (ORIHI) will host its annual Celebrate Research Week event along with regional partners, bringing together researchers, academic institutions, health organizations and innovation hubs to showcase how research improves lives, strengthens communities and shapes the future of health care.
“We have an incredible week planned, full of opportunities to learn from and engage in meaningful conversations with researchers, clinicians, community partners and students from across our region,” said Tiziana Rivera, Executive Vice President, Quality, Research and Chief Nursing Executive, William Osler Health System (Osler). “Together we’ll explore how local and national research is influencing health policy, improving patient outcomes and supporting everyday wellbeing.”
This year’s line-up includes ORIHI’s inaugural Research Symposium, keynotes from Partnership on AI and the Ontario Medical Association, research open houses at Osler sites, talks by Osler’s Quality Improvement Academy and other researchers, and poster sessions showcasing health-related research.
In addition to ORIHI events, community partners including the City of Brampton, the Brampton Board of Trade, Toronto Metropolitan University and WellFort will offer complementary events throughout the week.
One of the highlights of the week will be the first-ever ORIHI Research Symposium, during which Rebecca Finlay, CEO of Partnership on AI, will deliver the Keynote Address on Advancing responsible AI for societal impact. “This keynote address will set the tone for what promises to be an exceptional line-up of leading speakers throughout the day,” said Dr. Veronique Boscart, Chief Scientific Officer, Osler Research Institute for Health Innovation. “These sessions will showcase innovative research taking place across the health care and community sectors and reinforce the importance of collaboration and sharing knowledge to amplify impact.”
To celebrate its one-year anniversary during Celebrate Research Week, ORIHI launched a national advocacy campaign encouraging research organizations across Canada to embrace Celebrate Research Week, supported by Community-based Research Canada (CBRCanada) and Research Canada.
“Public support for research grows when people understand its impact on daily life,” noted Rivera. “Celebrate Research Week is an opportunity to elevate the visibility and impact of research, and build collective momentum, showcasing how it drives progress, improves care, and supports healthier communities now and into the future.”
"The City of Brampton is proud to support Celebrate Research Week, which highlights the incredible innovations happening right here in our community,” said Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown. “Research like this not only advances health care but strengthens our city and improves the lives of residents every day,” he added.
