Past and present patients, families, and Osler teams came together to honour milestone in pediatric diabetes care
November 14, 2025, BRAMPTON – William Osler Health System (Osler) is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its Pediatric Diabetes Program, marking a quarter century of empowering children, youth, and their families to live well with diabetes through compassionate, comprehensive, and community-based care.
This milestone aligns with Diabetes Awareness Month, and with World Diabetes Day on November 14 – a global call to raise awareness and support for people living with diabetes.
Established in 2000, Osler’s Pediatric Diabetes Program has grown into one of the region’s leading centres for pediatric diabetes care, supporting more than 400 families across Brampton, Etobicoke, and surrounding areas each year. The program provides specialized care for children and youth with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, offering personalized support from diagnosis through every stage of their journey, right up to the transition to adult care at age 18.
"For 25 years, Osler’s Pediatric Diabetes Program has been a source of hope, education, and support for countless children,” said Carole Moore, Vice President, Clinical Services, William Osler Health System. “We are incredibly proud of how Osler’s Pediatric Diabetes Program team has empowered young people to live healthier, more confident lives while managing a lifelong condition. This milestone reflects our commitment to delivering compassionate, high-quality care that makes a real difference to families in our community."
Supported by a multidisciplinary team that includes but is not limited to pediatric endocrinologists, nurses, dietitians, social workers and clerical staff, the program provides comprehensive care that goes far beyond just medical management. Children are seen regularly for follow-up and education on insulin use, managing their nutrition, and how to take care of their physical and emotional well-being. The team works closely with local schools to support day-to-day diabetes care and education, to help students build resilience. In response to the growing needs of the community, the program expanded in 2021 with a satellite clinic at Etobicoke General Hospital’s Wellness Centre, improving access and bringing services even closer to home.
"Reaching a quarter of a century for Osler’s Pediatric Diabetes Program is an extraordinary achievement made possible by the dedication and expertise of our teams,” said Anne-Marie Graham, Director, Cardiovascular, Stroke and Chronic Disease Programs, William Osler Health System. “Diabetes is a life-altering diagnosis, but this vital program truly changes the lives of children and their families every day. I’m deeply grateful for our teams’ passion and commitment, and for the trust the community places in us.”
To mark the milestone anniversary, a celebration held on November 12 at Osler’s Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness brought together over 125 past and present patients, families, and care providers to reflect on the program’s remarkable journey and lasting impact. The evening featured interactive displays, family-friendly activities, and special opportunities to reconnect with the dedicated care teams who have supported generations of children.
"The Pediatric Diabetes Program truly exemplifies what we strive for across Osler – delivering world-class health care inspired by our people and communities,” said Kiki Ferrari, Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer, William Osler Health System. “For 25 years, the program has combined clinical excellence with compassion. Congratulations to the entire team on this remarkable milestone and for continuing to set the standard in pediatric diabetes care and improving lives – this anniversary belongs to everyone who has contributed to the program’s success."
As Osler celebrates this important milestone, the Pediatric Diabetes Program continues to build on its strong foundation – driving innovation, collaboration, and excellence in pediatric diabetes care.
