Bird Design-Build Construction Inc. to partner with Infrastructure Ontario and Osler for next phase
Today, the Ontario government, through Infrastructure Ontario (IO), and William Osler Health System (Osler) announced the start of the next phase of development for the new Peel Memorial Hospital – and a key milestone in the project. IO and Osler have signed a Development Phase Agreement (DPA) with Bird Design-Build Construction Inc., which is the development partner selected to advance the project requirements including the design, schedule and pricing.
This significant milestone follows an open, fair, and competitive Request for Proposal process that began in October 2024. The Bird Design-Build Construction Inc. team includes:
- Applicant lead: Bird Design-Build Construction Inc.
- Design team: Cannon Design Ltd.
- Construction team: Bird Design-Build Construction Inc.
“The selection of the Development Partner and the signing of the Development Phase Agreement mark momentous milestones in the transformation of Peel Memorial into Brampton’s second hospital,” said Pardeep Singh Gill, Chair of William Osler Health System’s Board of Directors. “Osler looks forward to continuing to partner with the Ontario Government, Infrastructure Ontario, City of Brampton, Osler Foundation and our community, and now with Bird Design-Build Construction Inc., to build the state-of-the-art hospital this community needs and deserves.”
Once the Development Phase is complete, Osler and Bird Design-Build Construction Inc. will have the option to sign a final project agreement to move forward with building the new patient tower. This development phase agreement will include detailed design plans and a target price for construction. As with any large-scale construction projects, key dates are subject to change, pending additional approvals.
Early construction for the new Peel Memorial Hospital began in March 2025, with preparatory work such as site access improvements.
“We are thrilled to be advancing the Peel Memorial Hospital project, which will bring much-needed services closer to home, reduce the need to travel for care and support the health and wellbeing of our fast-growing and diverse community for generations to come,” said Dr. Frank Martino, President and CEO, William Osler Health System. “Today’s announcement is an important step toward a very bright, exciting future for health care in this community.”
