Osler selects HOK Architects Corporation, marking an important step toward making Brampton’s new hospital a reality

William Osler Health System (Osler) has reached another exciting milestone in the transformation of Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness (Peel Memorial) into Brampton’s new hospital. HOK Architects Corporation (HOK) has been selected as the planning, design and conformance (PDC) team for this important project.

“Today’s announcement is another great milestone for Osler and, most importantly, for the community. We are looking forward to working with HOK, as well as our partners in government to continue moving this project forward so we can ensure this community has even greater access to the important health care services it needs,” said Linda Franklin, Chair, William Osler Health System Board of Directors. “The PDC team will be instrumental throughout the critical next steps of Peel Memorial’s transformation into Brampton’s new hospital, and we are excited to continue the forward momentum.”

As the PDC team, HOK will establish the guidelines and performance requirements that the selected building consortium must meet when preparing the final design and implementing construction of the new Peel Memorial Hospital. The PDC team will also monitor compliance with the output specifications during design, development, and construction progress, and provide coordination and oversight throughout the course of the project.

“For residents of Brampton, the selection of the PDC team means that we are one step closer to increased hospital and health care capacity for our community,” said Dr. Frank Martino, Interim President and CEO, William Osler Health System. “The new Peel Memorial will further complement the exceptional care delivered at Osler’s Brampton Civic and Etobicoke General Hospitals, and enables us to continue to grow a robust and accessible health system for this fast-growing city and the surrounding area.”

When combined with the existing outpatient clinics, diagnostic imaging, day surgery and other health services already operating on the site, the new Peel Memorial Hospital will offer additional inpatient beds, as well as new and enhanced outpatient clinics and services. Peel Memorial’s exciting transformation also includes:

  • a 24/7 Emergency Department in Brampton, to replace the existing Urgent Care Centre
  • new and enhanced services for seniors
  • new and enhanced mental health and addictions services
  • rehabilitation and complex continuing care services
  • 250 inpatient beds with space to build more in the future

Osler is working closely with Infrastructure Ontario (IO) to deliver the project. As the planning, design and conformance work begins, Osler and IO will issue a request for qualifications (RFQ) to prequalify teams to design, build and finance the new Peel Memorial. The RFQ is expected to be released in fall 2022.

Quotes

“With support from our government, the new Peel Memorial project continues to advance, promising a stronger health care system for patients and their families in Brampton and surrounding communities. As this project moves forward, its completion will ensure that care is available to better meet the needs of Peel Region and improve access to services for generations to come.”
- Hon. Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health

“With each step of Peel Memorial's growth and expansion we're getting closer to delivering transformational improvements to Brampton’s heath care system," said Prabmeet Sarkaria, President of the Treasury Board and MPP for Brampton South. "The plans and vision of Osler and the PDC team today will lead to better access and quality of care for our community tomorrow. Achieving this milestone gives us the team we need to deliver a world-class hospital for our city, and continue building a better Brampton for our families."
- Hon. Prabmeet Singh Sarkaria, President of the Treasury Board and MPP for Brampton South
