William Osler Health System (Osler) recently earned national recognition from Accreditation Canada for its steadfast commitment to people-centred care. Osler is one of only three hospitals in Ontario to complete the rigorous People-Centred Care Program Certification, a powerful reflection of how the organization brings its Vision of 'World-class health care inspired by our people and communities' to life every day.
“Delivering people-centred care is more than a priority at Osler – it involves actively partnering with patients and those who support them to listen, understand, and respond to their unique needs and lived experiences,” said Mary Jane McNally, Chief Patient Experience Officer, William Osler Health System. “This means providing meaningful information and education to empower individuals, their families and communities, as well as advancing shared decision-making to shape hospital policies, programs and integrated services.”
Osler is also one of five North American hospitals selected and the only Canadian recipient of HealthCarePX’s Black Belt Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC) Metrics Award. HealthCarePX is a U.S.-based non-profit organization dedicated to improving the patient experience by strengthening PFACs, and the award celebrates measurable impact driven by PFAC collaboration. Osler’s PFAC was recognized for helping make real improvements in patient safety and quality of care, hospital operations and values-based patient experience. Their work supports people-centred care, including an increase in more Osler patients saying they were always involved in decisions about their care.
“At Osler, we strongly believe that the health and wellbeing of our patients, workforce and communities is strengthened when we all work together as partners to support continuous quality improvement,” said Dr. Frank Martino, President and CEO, William Osler Health System. “The recognitions by both Accreditation Canada and HealthCarePX are a testament to the spirit of transparency, inclusiveness and collaboration that is embedded in our culture at Osler, and we couldn’t be prouder of our teams’ commitment to people-centred care.”
