As we enter the holiday season, our hearts are filled with gratitude for the many people who support William Osler Health System (Osler) in living our Vision of 'world-class health care inspired by our people and communities'.
Working together, Osler team members, donors, patients and families, along with the support of government, health care, academic and community partners, are building a strong, sustainable future for health care in our region, where people-centred care is at the heart of everything we do.
In what has been a truly extraordinary year, Osler maintained its highly coveted Accredited with Exemplary Standing designation, the highest distinction from Accreditation Canada, exemplifying our teams’ steadfast commitment to safe, high-quality care.
Evolving with the growing needs of our diverse communities, our teams continued to enhance access to highly specialized services, including minimally invasive robotic surgeries for urology, gynecology and thoracic surgery with the arrival of the Da Vinci robot; and advanced innovative programming in Mental Health and Addictions to provide faster, more flexible access to therapy for people living with addictions.
We strengthened community partnerships to improve access to care for patients by launching a new evening cardiac rehabilitation program at Etobicoke General Hospital and collaborating with Peel Region’s Community Paramedicine Program to safely support vulnerable patients in their homes, reducing 911 calls, repeat emergency department visits, and hospital readmissions.
We celebrated Peel Memorial’s historic 100th anniversary and the groundbreaking ceremony for its transformation into Brampton’s second hospital, signing an agreement with a development partner that will pave the way for expanded health care capacity in our region for years to come.
As one of Canada’s leading community teaching hospitals, we welcomed the inaugural class of 105 medical residents from Toronto Metropolitan University’s (TMU) new School of Medicine, in our role as primary clinical partner. We also established academic practice partnerships with TMU, Humber Polytechnic and the University of Toronto, further strengthening the health care workforce through clinical practice, education and collaborative research.
The Osler Research Institute for Health Innovation celebrated its first anniversary and held its second highly successful Celebrate Research Week with local partners. Once again, the week demonstrated how innovative research at Osler and beyond is driving better patient care, health outcomes and system performance in our region, and inspiring the next generation of health care providers and researchers.
This year, we also began our journey to implement a modern Hospital Information System that will transform the way we document, coordinate and deliver care, further enhancing patient safety and improving experiences for patients and Osler team members.
Behind many of these successes is an incredible group of donors and champions whose generous contributions are vital to supporting health care in our communities, including the transformation of Peel Memorial into Brampton’s second hospital.
This year has been Osler Foundation’s most successful ever, generating a record $22 million, through the Foundation’s annual Holi Gala, The Next 100 Gala, and the Osler Open Golf Invitationals, as well as community events such as Hockey Night in Brampton, the Endless Giving Gala and Seva for Osler Gurpurab Radiothon and generous donations from the community.
We are eternally grateful for our incredible Osler and Osler Foundation team members who consistently Go Beyond, and for every dollar we receive, which enables us to continue providing innovative health care delivered with compassion.
The future of health care looks promising thanks to all of you who join us in sharing a powerful sense of community. From our hospitals to your home, happy holidays and best wishes for the year ahead.
