2025-26 Annual Report

Focusing on the future: Advancing world-class health care

At William Osler Health System (Osler), everything we accomplished in 2025-26 has been at the hands and in the hearts of our staff, physicians, learners, volunteers, patients, families and community partners.

In this year’s Annual Report, we look back at the milestones we achieved together. We are proud to have received the highest honour for a hospital in Canada for safety, care and quality, while advancing cancer care, and expanding access to cardiac and mental health services.

We took important steps toward modernizing our hospital information system, continued to grow our partnerships with community health care organizations and made extraordinary advancements in educating and training the next generation of health care professionals.

Throughout it all, we remained firmly guided by our unwavering commitment to people-centred care.

Together, we’re continuing to build the momentum behind a bold new era of world-class health care. Discover the stories behind Osler’s progress below.

At Osler, everything we do begins with our patients, families, staff, physicians, learners and the vibrant communities we are privileged to serve.

Over the last year, guided by our Strategic Plan, Going Beyond for our people and communities, we made significant progress in improving care, advancing research and expanding education. In our 2025-26 Annual Report, we are proud to highlight many of these achievements, along with the people who made them possible.

Our commitment to excellence was once again recognized as we achieved Accredited with Exemplary Standing, Accreditation Canada’s highest honour, reaffirming our dedication to delivering safe, high-quality care. National recognition of our leadership in people-centred care further reflected the compassion that is at the heart of everything we do.

In 2025-26, we continued to reimagine access to care. We took important steps forward, selecting a development partner and starting early construction work to help transform Peel Memorial into Brampton’s second hospital and bring vital services closer to home for the communities we serve.

Innovation and learning remained central to our work this past year and will continue to shape our future. We chose and began to implement Epic as our new hospital information system, embracing emerging technologies in an increasingly digital landscape and setting in motion a transformation that will change the way we care for patients and work together. We proudly welcomed the first cohort of medical residents from Toronto Metropolitan University’s new School of Medicine and opened dedicated Academic Learning Centres—dynamic spaces designed to inspire collaboration, discovery and the next generation of health care leaders.

We also continued to invest in the well-being, growth, and development of our staff, physicians, and learners, a commitment that earned us an Improved Care Team Well-being Award.

On a personal note, we were deeply saddened by the loss of a truly outstanding member of our Osler team—Ken Mayhew, President and CEO of the Osler Foundation. His generous spirit, infectious positivity and profound humility will remain in our hearts and memories. Ken’s legacy, centred on community, compassion and connection, has reshaped health care in our region and continues to motivate us daily.

Under Ken’s leadership, the Osler Foundation had a record-breaking year. From signature events, such as the Holi GalaThe Next 100 Gala and Hockey Night in Brampton, to contributions, big and small, from countless community members, every gift helped support world-class health care for you and your loved ones.

For us, providing world-class health care is more than a goal; it’s a commitment. This commitment is reflected in every decision made in the boardroom and in every act of compassion at the bedside, and it comes to life through the impactful stories featured in our 2025–26 Annual Report.

To our staff, physicians, volunteers, learners, patients, families, board members, partners and donors: thank you. We truly are building a more connected, inclusive and accessible health system that will serve our communities for generations to come and are looking ahead with great confidence and a strong sense of excitement for the future.

The future of health care in our region is bright.

In 2025-26, led by the priorities outlined in our 2024-27 Clinical Priorities plans, and in collaboration with our community, health system, government and academic partners, we continued to focus on how we teach, learn, innovate and deliver care to improve health outcomes and experiences for you—our valued patients and families.

Advancing world-class health care truly is embedded in everything we do, and this is evident through our accomplishments this past year, which include:

  • Advancing surgical care by introducing leading-edge robotics for urology, gynecology and thoracic surgery to support faster recovery and shorter hospital stays.
  • Enhancing access to therapy for people living with addictions through innovative programming in Mental Health and Addictions.
  • Strengthening nursing and clinical practice through expanded academic practice partnerships with Toronto Metropolitan University, Humber Polytechnic and the University of Toronto to enhance quality, safety and innovation in patient care.
  • Investing in hands-on learning and simulation to ensure that current and future health care professionals are equipped to deliver the highest standard of care.
  • Driving research that makes a difference, including hosting our first research symposium to showcase innovations that are improving patient outcomes locally and beyond.
  • Demonstrating our commitment to safe, quality patient care through the re-accreditation of our Pharmacy, Diagnostic Vascular Laboratory, Laboratory Services, and Oncology and Palliative programs.

Osler's progress is made possible by the compassionate, skilled professionals who are dedicated to delivering the care you deserve. You can meet some of our many exceptional staff and physicians featured in our Five Tips, Values Award and Doctors Making a Difference campaigns. Their dedication, and that of their colleagues, are reflected not only in the outcomes we achieve but also in the experiences of every patient and family member who walk through our doors.

We are deeply grateful to our staff, physicians and learners for the expertise, empathy and innovation they bring to Osler each day. With every step forward, we build momentum toward a brighter future, one where our communities thrive, our patients flourish and the path to better health shines more brightly than ever.

People and Culture

Inspiring a sense of belonging that supports people to be their best and do their best

When you come to Osler, you’re cared for by people who truly understand what matters most—delivering people-centred, compassionate, high-quality care. No one takes that to heart more than Osler’s staff, physicians, volunteers and learners. They show up every day with a shared purpose: to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our patients and their families.

In 2025-26, that commitment was reflected in our Values Champions, who led by example with Respect, Excellence, Service, Compassion, Innovation and Collaboration. And it was evident in the health care professionals profiled in our Doctors Making a Difference and Five Tips campaigns who helped to improve the lives of their patients and the broader community through empathy, expertise and education.

We know that when our people feel supported, you feel it too. That’s why we continued to invest in programs that support the well-being of our staff and physicians—a commitment that was recognized with an Improved Care Team Well-being Award.

Our work to make care more inclusive, accessible and welcoming for everyone remained a priority throughout 2025-26. Through our new multi-year accessibility plan and focus on health justice, we took meaningful steps to ensure every patient, family, and team member feels respected, supported and that they belong at Osler.

Quality Excellence

Relentlessly pursuing world-class, high-quality health care

Over the past year, our teams remained focused on providing safe, high-quality, compassionate health care to all those who came through our doors. With a relentless commitment to evidence-based practice, we continued to bring our Vision of 'World-class health care inspired by our people and communities' to life, every day, in every interaction.

Once again, we earned Accreditation Canada’s highest designation for a Canadian hospital, Accredited with Exemplary Standing, and our hospital system became one of only three Ontario hospitals to receive a national recognition for our commitment to people-centred care.

We also continued to earn international recognition for cancer care. The past year, our teams led a landmark cross-disciplinary study that found new ways to improve outcomes for people diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer, and made it easier for adolescents and young adults to access the cancer care they need through a dedicated new program.

We introduced new and more flexible addictions programs to help people get support sooner, as wait times across the province continued to grow. And we launched a groundbreaking trauma stream for children and youth, helping fill an important gap in mental health care for young people and their families.

These are just a few examples of how Osler teams, driven by our pursuit of excellence, are continually evolving our programs and services, and embracing innovation to enhance the patient and family experience.

Organizational Effectiveness

Optimizing resources to provide effective health care for the communities we serve

Osler is deeply committed to making the most efficient and effective use of our precious resources, while delivering the programs and services our diverse communities need—both now and in the future.

Throughout 2025-26, working closely with all levels of government, we continued to move forward on plans to expand care across our region. This included choosing a development partner to transform Peel Memorial into Brampton’s second hospital.

One of our most transformative steps this year was selecting Epic as our new hospital information system. This global digital platform brings health information together in one place, giving teams faster access to what they need, and helping patients and families stay more connected and informed throughout their care journey. It’s a meaningful step forward in how we deliver safe, high-quality, people-centred care.

We also focused on expanding our use of advanced technology in surgery. Building on our growing robotics program, we introduced a world-renowned system for certain cancer surgeries that improves the patient experience through more precise procedures, quicker recoveries and shortened hospital stays.

To make care more accessible, we launched an evening cardiac rehabilitation program at Etobicoke General Hospital that gives patients another flexible option to support their recovery and improve their heart health.

As our communities continue to grow, we remain committed to improving access to care, supporting better health outcomes, and providing safe, effective care for everyone who relies on us.

Health System Leadership

Leading and partnering to transform the health system for Osler’s communities and beyond

At Osler, we believe great care evolves through partnership, shared purpose, and a deep commitment to the people we serve. Together with our government, community, academic and industry partners, we’re shaping a stronger, more connected health system for today and into the future.

Our partnerships are also making a real difference closer to home. Through our work with Peel Region’s Community Paramedicine Program, more seniors with complex health needs are able to recover safely and comfortably at home following their hospital stay. And through our award-winning Prevention of Error-based Transfers initiative, we’re reducing unnecessary hospital visits—keeping residents where they feel most supported.

At Peel Memorial, the opening of the Black Health and Social Services Hub Connection Point, a satellite arm of the Black Health and Social Services Hub Peel, focused its efforts on health promotion and outreach, a great example of how we’re working with system partners to support the unique health needs of Black, African, and Caribbean communities in Peel Region.

This year, we proudly celebrated the 25th anniversary of our Paediatric Diabetes Program, a milestone that reflects a time of collaboration with families, schools, and community partners to help children with diabetes thrive.

These are just a few examples of what’s possible when we lead together. As we look ahead, we remain focused on building strong partnerships and finding new ways to deliver exceptional care so every person in our community can feel confident about the future of health care.

Research and Academics

Developing the health care providers and researchers of tomorrow

At Osler, learning and discovery are part of who we are today and is a key focus for our future.

In 2025–26, we strengthened our role as a community teaching hospital. As the primary clinical partner for Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) School of Medicine, we welcomed 105 medical residents to our sites, providing opportunities for future physicians, like Dr. Rodney Chan, to gain hands-on experience while supporting patient care.

We also expanded opportunities to learn and grow. New Academic Learning Centres and the expansion of our Simulation Program gave learners the space and confidence to build skills in a safe, supportive environment.

Through partnerships with TMU, University of Toronto, and Humber Polytechnic, we’re advancing education, research, and clinical innovation—bringing fresh ideas into our hospitals and strengthening care for patients.

This spirit of discovery was on display during our second annual Research Week and inaugural Research Symposium, where teams showcased research work that is already transforming discoveries into practice for better health.

Building on that momentum, in 2025-26 the Osler Research Institute for Health Innovation welcomed its first group of members. Through their leadership, research and commitment to improving care, these individuals are helping advance new ideas, innovations and evidence-based practices that will benefit patients and families across Osler.

By investing in learners and research today, we’re helping to ensure exceptional care for our communities of tomorrow.
