Virtual Care

Virtual care connects you and your health care provider through a secure telephone or video call. It offers quality care from the comfort of your home, using your telephone, smart phone or computer. Depending on your needs, virtual care may reduce your visits to a hospital or clinic.

Virtual care visits are a lot like in-person visits with your health care provider. You may discuss your current health and your progress. Your provider will also answer any questions you may have about your care or condition.

If virtual care is an option, a member of your care team will discuss it with you. They will also explain the types of technology available and advise you which option(s) may be best for you.

Yes. Any information you give your health care provider during your virtual visit is confidential and secure. If you have any questions about your privacy, please contact us at privacy.office@williamoslerhs.ca.

Not necessarily. While many programs offer virtual care, it is not available in all clinical areas.

Depending on your care needs, you may also require an in-person assessment. As a result, some of your appointments may be virtual, while others are in person. Your health care provider will explain which visits are most appropriate virtually.

More than 20 Osler clinics and programs offer virtual care options. As our virtual care options grow, your Osler care provider will contact you if virtual care may be an option for you.

We understand that virtual appointments are new to many patients, which is why once you have been booked for a virtual appointment, you will be sent a link, either by text or email, with video instructions on how to participate in a video visit. Please review the video and follow the instructions ahead of your scheduled appointment to ensure you have the required software.

Telehomecare

Osler is partnered with Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN) to provide Telehomecare to patients living with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and Chronic Heart Failure (CHF). Funded by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, Telehomecare links patients from home to registered nurses so they can learn how to take charge of their health. Using virtual care, nurses monitor and support people to help manage their conditions. Learn more about the OTN Telehomecare Centre.
