The TB clinic works with Peel Public Health to actively investigate, manage and follow all cases of suspected and active tuberculosis in the community.

The clinic serves as the regional referral centre for a large catchment of north Mississauga, Brampton and the west GTA for the care of active pulmonary and extra-pulmonary disease, complex disseminated TB cases and multi-drug resistant TB.

The TB clinic is vital to the management of patients that were admitted to hospital with complex TB disease and require post-discharge care to continue their recovery. The clinic also admits patients for complications of TB and advanced TB cases.

The hepatitis clinic cares for patients with hepatitis B and C and is the only dedicated integrated multi-disciplinary community hospital hepatitis clinic of its kind in Canada. The clinic has been recognized by the Canadian Association of Liver Diseases, CATIE, and numerous academic and community hospitals.

The clinic has made international contributions to the development of curative therapies and engaged in ground-breaking therapeutic discoveries (including the discovery of a new strain of hepatitis C).

The hepatitis clinic is staffed by an Infectious Diseases consultant and a Hepatologist as well as a clinical nurse specialist and research nurse and includes diagnostic and prognostic transient elastography for its patients, which helps to improve liver care.

Osler’s HIV care program is a dual site program that delivers care to individuals in the Osler catchment and beyond. Our physicians collaborate with public health units, primary care providers and specialty pharmacists to provide comprehensive HIV care.

The general infectious diseases clinics investigate, treat and cure all infectious diseases of adults including malaria, typhoid fever, latent tuberculosis and HIV as well as many tropical and parasitic infections.

The clinic also sees all of Osler’s inpatients that are admitted with severe infections that require ambulatory care including intra-abdominal sepsis, septic shock, empyema, meningitis, pneumonia, encephalitis, osteomyelitis, head and neck infections and infective endocarditis.

These infections require consultation and follow-up for:

• expedited diagnostic imaging for interventional drainage
• administration of antibiotics
• physical assessment of skin and soft tissue infections and wounds
• assessment of infectious rashes and exanthems
• lumbar punctures
• administration of IM penicillin (sexually transmitted infections)
• assessment of adverse events and side effects from antibiotic treatment
