Children's Services

Osler provides inpatient and outpatient services for children ranging from one day of age up to their 18th birthday. The children we serve need:

  • medical and/or surgical services
  • assessment and care by a team of experts

Children's inpatient units are located at Brampton Civic Hospital and Etobicoke General Hospital. If your child needs hospital care, our experienced team is here to help.

Depending on your child's needs, your care team may include the following:

Child life specialists help children and families cope with the social and emotional challenges of injury, illness and hospitalization. They:

  • work to make life as normal as possible for children at the hospital
  • provide care and education
  • encourage and support play as a coping strategy

Dietitians help children and families improve their dietary choices and overall health through assessment, education and counselling.

Nurses provide medical/nursing care and education to help children and families make the most of their ongoing health and life choices.

Occupational therapists assess and provide care to children and families. They help patients overcome symptoms from past injuries and/or health problems.

Paediatricians are doctors who specialize in child and youth health. Some paediatricians focus on a specific area of child and youth health. For example, paediatric cardiologists focus on heart health, while nephrologists focus on kidney health.

Pharmacists can help you manage medications and maximize your child's ongoing health and life choices.

Physiotherapists assess their patients' needs and provide care and education to help people live active, healthy lives. As needed, they also treat the symptoms of injury and/or disability.

Respiratory therapists are specially trained professionals who provide assessments, medical care and education related to breathing and the respiratory system.

Social workers offer professional support, education and intervention to help children and families cope with stress and its causes.

Surgeons are specially trained doctors who provide medical care and surgical procedures to help improve your child's health.
